No. We don’t recommend doing so as there is no safe way to vent the gas outside.
No, the unit must be vertical. The flame from the burners must go straight up or charring of the wiring can occur.
The L5 product is designed for portable outdoor installation and works off a standard 20-pound propane tank. If used indoors, it may cause fire and the propane fumes could be hazardous.
If you’re going to need to supply hot water to more than one appliance operating at the same time (ex: a shower and a sink), you will need the extra flow rate provided by the L10. Otherwise, the L5 is great at running a single shower.
No. Portable tankless water heaters are not designed to replace any fixtures or faucets. They are not meant for permanent installation. Portable Tankless Water Heaters such as L5, L7 and L10 are meant for outdoor recreational use, with the use of a standard garden hose and should be used only outdoors. When not in use, they should be disconnected and stored in a warm and dry location. Installing the units as a permanent installation can void any warranty due to being deemed as improper install.
Yes. The Eccotemp L5 unit uses pipe thread fittings for the water inlet and outlet. An adapter is also included for the water inlet so a garden hose can be attached.
Yes. If you can find one that fits just right and as long as it can maintain the required pressure, there is no limit to the length of hose you can use.
No. The heater turns on when you turn it on. It shuts off when you shut it off. Automatic shut off is an emergency feature. If in case, you left in on by accident, the heater shuts off after 20 minutes of continuous running.
The 20-minutes timer in the L5 and L10 products cannot be turned off. This is a safety feature that is programmed inside the ignition box and then sealed. You can buy a GE 24-hour timer and connect your pump to it. Set the circle tabs in the timer to alternate every hour or 30 minutes to switch the pump on and off.
The Eccotemp L5 unit has been field tested up to 7,200 feet. However, the manufacturer recommends using the L5 unit between elevation 5,500-6,000 feet. The water may not get hot enough at a higher altitude and will likely require manual adjustment of the unit to reach desired temperature.
Freeze damage or water pressure will void your warranty. This comes from leaving your unit in cold conditions as well as not properly draining which creates a buildup water that ruptures pipes.
In order to prevent this, you must take the following steps:
THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER RUPTURES IN ITS SYSTEMS DUE TO FROZEN WATER IN THE PIPES. It is the homeowner and/or installers responsibility to ensure that the incoming and outgoing water lines are properly insulated and protected against freeze.
Outdoor model numbers, L5 and L10, DO NOT have an antifreeze circuit installed. If the temperatures get at or below freezing, you must drain the unit by unscrewing the drain stem located at the bottom right of the unit AS WELL AS unhook the outgoing water line to ensure proper drainage from the heat exchange.
This guide is for the following Eccotemp Models: L5, L7, L10, and the FVI-12 tankless water heater systems:
1st. Make sure that your Eccotemp Tankless water heater is turned off, and also verify that your gas supply is turned off.
2nd. Disconnect the water source hose from the water inlet pipe located at the far right of your Eccotemp water heater.
3rd. The filter screen can be found at the opening of the water inlet pipe. Place your finger/s on the screen to remove any particles that may be obstructing the flow of water. If the screen appears clogged or rusty, you may clean it by lightly scrubbing it with a metal wire brush available at any hardware store.
If your screen is missing, heavily corroded, or damaged, you may need to contact us at 1-800-296-9545 to order a replacement filter screen.
a. First, check whether there is flow of water on the right side of the device. If the input and output are inverted, the unit will not work. The input is at the far right and the output in the middle.
b. The on/off switch to the “-” mark should be depressed (only Eccotemp L5), or when it has the left knob of the burner output to be opened.
c. Check whether the batteries are fresh and that they are installed in the correct position.
d. The main reason why the device does not ignite often is because of insufficient water pressure. You must ensure that a minimum, constant water pressure of 1.38 is present.
e. Lastly, check whether all plugs are correct, possibly remove and reinstall it again to mount it securely.
